Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL – After starting their home schedule outscoring opponents 15-3 in three consecutive wins, the Quad City Mallards had their first downturn on home ice Friday night. The Muskegon Fury scored four times in the third period to break open a 1-1 game and take a 5-1 victory at The MARK of the Quad Cities.

The Mallards led 1-0 after one period. Rookie Lanny Gare's strong backcheck on Muskegon's Scott Feasby led to a rush up the ice by Steve Gibson. His shot deflected off a Fury defender past goaltender Sylvain Daigle to give Quad City its only lead of the game. Late in the second period, Jason Lawmaster scored on a nice give-and-go by the Fury in a 4-on-4 situation to tie the game.

The Fury took advantage of an odd carom of the puck off the boards in the Mallards zone to earn the game-winning goal by Jeff Nelson 2:05 into the third period. Midway through the third, Robin Bouchard pounced on a giveaway in the Mallards zone and buried the puck in the back of the net for a 3-1 Fury advantage. Rustyn Dolyny then scored on a power play, and Todd Robinson capped the scoring with a goal to add to his two assists. Bouchard also had two assists for a three-point night.

Daigle stopped 32-of-33 Mallards shots on goal, while Quad City's Jeff Reynaert was victimized by the Fury's third-period outburst. He made 28 saves on the night.
