Top Ranked Xplorers Head to Arkansas

June 2, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 will face the Arkansas Twisters Saturday at the ALLTEL Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Xplorers (7-1) come into the game as the top ranked team in the league. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm CST.

Memphis beat Arkansas in week three of the season 54-13. The Xplorers shut out the Twisters in three of four quarters during the contest. Quarterback Brian Jones was the offensive MVP of the game with six passing touchdowns on 145 yards. Jones also ran in his third rushing TD of the season.

Defensive specialist Khreem Smith led the Xplorers’ defensive attack in the win. Smith is one of a handful of linemen who play the DS position in the af2. He earned ADT Defensive player honors against the Twisters.

The Xplorers are coming off their first bye week of the season. “It was a much needed break for all of us,” said Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto. “We were a little banged up, but now we are ready to get back into the swing of things.”

The Twisters (1-7) have been struggling to find themselves in the win column all season long. Their only win came against the Birmingham Steeldogs on May 21st. In their last game against the Macon Knights, the Twisters lost 45-67.

All Xplorers games can be heard on SportsRadio WMC The Mighty 790 AM. The next home game for the Xplorers is June 11th against the Quad City Steamwheelers.
