Week 10 Friday night matchup
June 2, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PIONEERS (4-4) AT GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (6-2)
FRIDAY, JUNE 3, 2005 - RESCH CENTER (7,995) 8:00 P.M. ET
Two East Division rivals face off when the Green Bay Blizzard host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. Last season's Rookie of the Year and Pioneers' receiver J.R. THOMAS will be out against Green Bay. He fractured his left fibula against Manchester last week and will be out three to four weeks. Thomas leads the Pioneers in receiving yards (671) and touchdown receptions (19). Teammates ROCCO FORGIONE and AMEER RILEY will need to step up their game with Thomas out. Forgione leads the team in receptions with 58 and Riley has 28 catches for 310 yards and five touchdowns on the season. Green Bay is coming off of a disappointing 26-55 loss to Birmingham last week. The loss put them a game behind Manchester in the East Division, but at 6-2 Green Bay is still in striking distance of first place. With the Manchester Wolves up next week for Green Bay, a win this week would set up a battle for first place in Week 11. Green Bay quarterback JOHNNY TURMAN likes to move the ball around. He has six different receivers who have caught at least ten passes this season. This crew will have to step up since ROBERT GARTH was put on short term injured reserve during the week. When Turman turns around to hand off the ball most of the time he will hand it to MATT HUEBNER. This rookie FB/LB has a nose for the endzone, scoring on eight of his 36 rushing attempts. On defense Huebner has two sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles. He has a forced fumble and a blocked kick to his name as well. Last week BRIAN SNYDER started instead of KYLE ROWLEY under center. The starter this week will be a game day decision.
