Halifax Mooseheads News Release
The Halifax Mooseheads didn't have many shots, but they made the most of their opportunities with pinpoint accuracy in a 6-2 road victory over the Charlottetown Islanders which included three goals on just four shots in the third period.
Jordan Dumais, Markus Vidicek and Mathieu Cataford combined for 12 points on the top line and goalie Mathis Rousseau was unbeatable for most of the night with 36 saves as Halifax improved to 9-4-1-0 on the season. Charlottetown dominated the puck possession but couldn't get much by Halifax's star goalie, despite outshooting the Mooseheads 38-15.
Dumais scored a pair of highlight reel goals and chipped in two assists, Vidicek also scored twice and had two assists while Cataford counted three assists and scored once. Brody Fournier had the other Mooseheads goal as he opened the scoring in the game at 4:31 of the first period. Lou Levesque and Jake Furlong also had assists in the win which kicked off a two-game, weekend road trip that will see the Herd visit the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Saturday afternoon at 4pm.
Halifax scored twice in the first period and once in the second and took a tidy 3-0 lead into the final 20 minutes. Dumais, the Columbus Blue Jackets prospect, increased the lead to 4-0 with his first of the night and it looked like the Moose could put it on cruise control. Charlottetown had other ideas however, and went on to score back to back tallies to make things interesting.
20-year-old Cole Huckins scored his first of the season to break the shutout bid on the 27th shot of the game from the Isles at the 4:36 mark of the period. The goal was originally waved off by the officials for goalie interference but they overturned the call on the ice after a video review. Charlottetown added another goal just under two minutes later on a partial breakaway by Giovanni Morneau.
Jordan Dumais, are you kidding me? What a snipe.
The Moose were able to pull away and squash the hopes of the Islanders when Mathieu Cataford scored the fifth of the game for the visiting team. The Vegas Golden Knights prospect carried the puck into the zone and had his attempted pass to Markus Vidicek hit an opposition stick and deflect into the net. Dumais quickly followed it up with a near impossible angle shot up and under the crossbar for a 6-2 lead only 19 seconds after the Cataford goal. He has 11 points in four games this season and now sits at 289 for his career. Dumais sits 15 points behind Brandon Benedict's franchise record of 303.
After the road game on Saturday in Bathurst, the Moose will come back to Halifax for a home game on Wednesday night in a rematch with the Titan. The Mooseheads will also be home on Friday, November 3rd against Rimouski in Minor Hockey Night and then it's Mooseheads Fight Cancer Night vs Sherbrooke on Saturday, November 4th at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
