Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. (July 10, 2010) - The Tucson Toros used a pair of big innings to avoid a sweep in SoCal, beating Orange County 9-3 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Goodwin Field. The Flyers, now eliminated from the first half division title, are off until Thursday, July 15 as the GBL season pauses for its All-Star break.

Tucson scored five runs off six hits in the top of the sixth inning to pull away from Orange County for a 9-3 lead. After the first run scored off a Flyers error, Jose Valdez knocked a two-run triple, and Lino Garcia and Cristobal Santana followed with RBI-singles for a 9-3 Toros lead.

Tucson struck for four runs in the fourth inning off starter Jesse Smith for 4-0 lead, but the Flyers responded in the home half of the inning, getting a Sergio Pedroza two-run double and Jim Goethals sacrifice fly to pull within a run, 4-3.

The Flyers wore special pink jerseys for St. Jude Medical Center's Paint the Park Pink Night, which were auctioned off during the doubleheader to raise money for breast cancer research. The auction netted approximately $2,000. Orange County took the first game, 2-1, to clinch the series win over the Toros with 1,174 in attendance at The Station.

Orange County returns home after the All-Star break on Thursday, July 15 against the St. George RoadRunners. For ticket information, please call (714) 526-8326 or visit the team website at www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com.
