Walleye Notes
- The Ride Continues! Following the second three game losing skid this season, Toledo ripped off three consecutive wins over the weekend. The last time the Walleye lost three in a row, they followed it with an eight game winning streak.
- Shorthanded Time! Forward Bryan Ewing collected Toledo's league leading tenth shorthanded goal of the season Friday night against Trenton. The record for most shorthanded goals scored in an ECHL season by a Toledo team is 20 (1995-96 season). Ewing has collected 8 goals and 11 assists in his last 14 games.
- Powering with the Power Play! The Walleye returned to form with the power play this weekend scoring 8 goals in 17 opportunities (47.0%), which is the best stretch of the year for the unit. Earlier in the season Toledo went back to back games in which they scored 7 power play goals in 16 chances (43.7%).
- Streaking! Forward Malcolm MacMillan has a four game assist streak in which he has 5 helpers. Derek Nesbitt has points in four straight (2g, 3a). Mike Hedden has a three game assist streak with 4 helpers.
- Sawyer Continues to Light the Lamp! Defenseman JC Sawyer scored his team leading 16th goal of the season Sunday against Charlotte. This after he added two goals Saturday night against Trenton. Sawyer collected 7 points (3g, 4a) in the three games this weekend and has 36 for the season. Sawyer will start for the ECHL's American Conference in the All-Star Game on January 20th.
- Fantastic! Toledo has welcomed an ECHL league high 138,882 fans through the doors of the Lucas County Arena this season. Toledo is averaging 5,787 fans per home contest.
On the Hook
- Gametime! Toledo will hit the pavement for two games away from the LCA, before returning Sunday for a tilt with the Johnstown Chiefs. Friday night Toledo will be in Wheeling for the fourth game this year against the Nailers. The Walleye have yet to beat Wheeling (0-3-0-0). The Walleye will travel to Cincinnati for a Saturday night affair. Toledo is 4-2-0-0 against Cincinnati this year and they have beaten the Cyclones in three straight meetings. The Sunday home game features a meeting with Johnstown. Toledo has taken the first three games against the Chiefs, outscoring them 17-7 in those games. ? Promotions! Sunday is "Kids Day" with the Walleye which features a post-game Open Skate! SpongeBob SquarePants will be on hand for this game!
Walleye Player of the Week: JC Sawyer (3 goals - 4 assists 7 points)
Sawyer collected his 6th game-winning goal of the season Saturday night against Trenton.
Walleye Goaltender of the Week: Alec Richards (2-0-0, 1.60 gaa,.942 save %)
Alec allowed only three goals in two appearances against the Trenton Devils.
