Odessa, Texas. This is the fourth in a series of press releases introducing local players who will tryout (they have not yet been signed) on Saturday, December 4th for the Odessa Roughnecks. With the rapidly approaching 2005 National Indoor Football League season beginning soon, the Odessa Roughnecks are in search of local talent as well as scouring the country. Team President Tommy Benizio stated, "We would gladly put our local talent across from any other city's in this league." That local talent will be given their first chance Saturday, December 4th at the first 2005 season tryout.
Lucas Mesa is a 1998 graduate of Permian High School, and is looking to join the ranks of players such as Ja'Quay Wilburn also formerly from Permian, who made the final cut during the 2004 training camp. Mesa will be fighting for the position of Linebacker with the Roughnecks. With little background in organized football, Mesa has teamed up with 2004 Roughnecks player Mike Owens to get a few pointers. "I love playing football and all other sports, and I try hard to keep myself in shape. I know there is going to be a lot of talent trying out, however; I just want to do my best to make the cut", states Mesa. Lucas Mesa is 6'0" at 230 lbs.
The 2005 Season Schedule is in final stages of completion. The Odessa Roughnecks are looking forward to a rewarding, and successful season playing against teams, in what looks like will be all across Texas, into Louisiana, and possibly Wyoming and Georgia. The schedule should be announced the first part of December, with a press release to follow.
On Saturday, December 4th, hopeful local football players are invited and encouraged to attend this second annual Odessa Roughnecks Open Try-Outs. Players are to report to Hood Junior High School at 600 East 38th Street in Odessa no later than 8:00 AM. Players should arrive dressed in running shoes and athletic clothing for a combine style workout that will last until the afternoon. Pre-registration and a $40 fee are required by calling (432) 332-PASS(7277) or visiting the team's offices located in the Bank of America Building, downtown Odessa.
Player announcements are likely to begin in the coming weeks. Season ticket base continues it's growth and with the season right around the corner, be sure to call the Roughnecks office to reserve your season tickets for 2005 to ensure the best seats at (432) 332-PASS (7277).
