Roughnecks sign first player for '05
December 1, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
Odessa, Texas. Midland Lee has produced some exceptional athletes in the past and one more star will continue to make his mark in professional football. Clint McNutt graduated from Midland Lee High School and went on to play for Angelo State in San Angelo. McNutt even shared some field time with current University of Texas running back, and future NFL player, Cedric Benson. McNutt, 5'11" and 185 lbs, was a wide receiver for the Roughnecks during their 2004 campaign. "Clint is one of those indestructible players, very reliable and durable; he always seems to find his way into the endzone," said Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.
McNutt caught 35 passes for 426 yards and 9 touchdowns during the explosive first season. He also played defensive back where he made 14 solo tackles and had five pass breakups. In addition, McNutt returned three kickoffs for touchdowns. "What's almost as amazing as Clint's skill is to see him smashed into the dasherpads, drowned in a 900 pound pile of linemen, then pop up unscathed with the football-he's tougher than a two dollar steak," exclaimed Roughnecks President Tommy Benizio. Clint was a favorite with the fans by always finding the hole he needed to slip past his opponents and his energy and love for the game was defined by a solid West Texas hometown character. The Roughnecks are proud to have Clint McNutt back as the first signee for what is developing to be an exciting 2005 season. "I am very pleased to have been invited back and look forward to the upgraded competition of the National Indoor Football League.", stated McNutt, "It is great to play in front of my hometown and to contribute to the team."
On Saturday, December 4th, local football players, hopeful to join Clint McNutt are invited and encouraged to attend the second annual Odessa Roughnecks Open Try-Outs as the team searches for additional "Hometown Heros". Players are to report to Hood Junior High School at 600 East 38th Street in Odessa no later than 8:00 AM.
