Tobs Take on a Blue Devil

Wilson, NC - The Wilson Tobs are proud to announce the addition of Duke's Justin Bellinger to the 2016 roster.

A native of Weston, Massachusetts, the 6'6" sophomore first basemen brings power and experience to the Tobs lineup. During his junior season with the Blue Devils, Bellinger help lead his team to a 31-22 mark. Seeing action in 46 games with 43 starts the southpaw was just one of four Duke freshmen to start in 35 or more games. In his first career at bat, Bellinger belted a 2-run blast against California to help lead the Devils to a 7-1 victory in the 2015 season opener.

Previously, Bellinger played for the Asheboro Copperheads, a fellow Coastal Plain League member, in the 2015 summer. In limited playtime with the snakes, the big lefty saw action in 34 games and starting in 30 of them and finished second on the team offensively with 4 homeruns.

Tobs head coach Aaron Lynch had this to say about the lefty, "Justin brings great experience to our team this summer. He already has the vital wood bat experience of the CPL and we look for him to be pivotal in driving in runs this summer. The added experience of him having played in the Atlantic Coast Conference and gaining another year of playing time will benefit our Tobs lineup for the upcoming season."

The Duke Blue Devils are coached by Chris Pollard, entering his 4th season with the program. After another successful 2015 season and reaching the 30-win plateau, Pollard becomes the first Duke head coach to lead his team to two 30-win seasons in his first three years. During the three seasons at the helm of the Duke program, Pollard holds a 90-76 overall record. In the combined 16-year head coaching career (Pfeiffer University, Appalachian University, and Duke) Pollard holds a career record of 475-394-3. The Blue Devils open up their 2016 campaign on Friday, February 19th at 4 pm against California at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
