WILSON, N.C.- The Tobs hosted their 5th Annual Beer and BBQ Festival with a double-header against Morehead City.

In game one, the Marlins rallied in the top of the seventh for five runs, powering the Fish to a 9-5 lead.

Tanner Kirwer scored two runs for the Marlins and Tyler Weyenburg went 3-5 with two runs scored, making the duo a difficult leadoff combination.

Kirwer, Weyenburg and Christian Campbell all scored in the first inning to send MHC ahead 3-0. Kirwer would add another tally on a Campbell knock to make it 4-0.

Wilson answered with a run of their own in the fourth as new acquisition Logan Baldwin rounded the bases, making it a three-run ball game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tobs exploded. Chad Frazier led off with a single and would later scored on a Cameron Balego hit. Jimmy Latona who had a single rounded to score on a double from Logan Baldwin.

The game was tied on a sacrificie fly from Andrew Webster that scored Baldwin.

After Rutty Jones completed two innings of hitless relief, Jake Jones came in to close. However, Weyenburg reached on error on the first at bat of the inning, and later would score on a Michael Druhan knock.

A series of six batters reached base, five via a base hit or better. The Tobs ceded five runs in the top of the seventh and could not come back, dropping game one, 9-5.

Game two became a defensive battle between pitchers Jake Lewis (Wilson) and Sean Mason (Morehead City).

In front of over 1,500, the game to accompany the Beer and BBQ Festival presented by Coastal Beverage Co. was tremendous.

Morehead City bounced into a double play that prevented from Tyler Weyenburg from scoring the first inning, but took the lead first on a Thomas Estopare homer in the top of the third inning.

Wilson battled offensively, putting players on base through the first four innings, but were unable to score. Finally, in the home half of the fifth, Justin Dattilo advanced into scoring position on a Chad Frazier bunt and later scored on a Jimmy Latona single.

Cameron Balego completed the Mercyhurst connection by singling in his teammate Latona to send Wilson up one.

In the sixth, Morehead City scored a run due to a trio of fielding errors that took place between two batters. Matt O'neill scored on a throwing error from third base to tie the game.

The Tobs would not be denied in the sixth though. Matt Eppers led the inning off with a knock to right field. He would be later moved into scoring position by Dattilo on a bunt.

Eppers came home to score on a Jimmy Latona single. The Tobs scored a pair of insurance markers on a fielding error at first on a hard-hit ball from Balego. Two more runs scored in the inning, the last coming from a Conner Leonard sacrifice fly.

A comeback effort from Morehead City was stopped after only a run, as Brandon Vogler closed the game for Jake Lewis.

Lewis earned the longest appearance for Wilson this year, going six innings and earning six strikeouts. His power curve continually fooled the middle of a tough batting lineup.

Thomas Law Attorneys presented fireworks after the game marking a perfect celebratory measure for the Tobs' second league win.

The Tobs continue their homestand on Sunday against the Carolina Pirates of the Carolina Virginia League. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
