Wilson Tobs News Release
Wilson, NC - The Wilson Tobs are proud to announce the addition of two UNC Pembroke Braves to their 2016 roster. Junior transfers Justin Dattilo and Justin White will make the 100-mile trek north on I-95 to don the black and gold of the Tobs.
Justin Dattilo is no stranger to the Coastal Plain League. The 6'2" Catcher Dattilo played the 2015 summer for the Martinsville Mustangs, and lead his team with 185 at-bats and 10 doubles. Additionally, Dattilo was second on the Mustangs with 32 RBIs and 53 hits.
The junior backstop previously played for Maryland Eastern Shore, where in the Spring of 2015 he was second on the team with 177 at-bats, a .308 batting average, 26 runs scored, and 22 RBIs. Additionally he led the Hawks with 53 hits and 13 doubles. Defensively Dattilo caught 9 would be base stealers, good for a 22% success rate.
Tobs 2016 skipper Lynch said "Dattilo adds experience to our team. He played previously in the CPL and so he understands the long and grueling length of the season."
Justin White, is a 6'3" Junior RHP transfer from Southeastern CC in North Carolina. White is a walk-on this season for the Braves at UNCP. Braves assistant coach Alex Pearce had great things to say about White "He had a great tryout for us in the fall, and we feel as though he will make an impact for our pitching staff this spring. He has good velocity and command to compliment movement on all three of his pitches."
Mike Bell, Tobs General Manager stated "We as an organization are excited to welcome two players from UNC Pembroke. The Tobs have welcomed several other Braves in previous summers and they have all been good examples for the local community and provided entertainment on the field."
The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Braves are a Division II perennial power in the always-tough Peach Belt Conference. Having achieved the benchmark of 11 straight years with 30+ wins, head coach Paul O'Neil enters his 16th season with the Braves. Already UNCP's all-time winningest coach, achieved in 2011, O'Neil has coached 14 All-Americans, 40 All-Region selections, and 54 All-Conference selections. While at UNCP O'Neil holds a 485-311-1 (.609) record and a 569-389-1 (.594) record as a head coach.
The Wilson Tobs home opener for the 2016 season is Sunday, May 29th. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (252) 291-8627, or by visiting www.wilsontobs.com/tickets.
