Tobs Sign Trio of Wildcats

May 14, 2020 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilson Tobs News Release

Wilson, N.C. - A trio of standout players are coming to you next Tobs fans! The Tobs grabbed a triad of local Davidson College Wildcats to improve their already dangerous pitching staff. Alex Fenton, Jacob Peaden, and Bennett Flynn will be staying in North Carolina as they join the Tobs 2020 roster. These wildcats were an extremely important part of Davidson's pitching staff in 2020 and will be viewed the same way for the Tobs this summer.

Our first Wildcat is the 6'3 sophomore righty out of Charlotte, NC, Alex Fenton. Even as a freshman Fenton was immediately trusted and put to work as he made 17 appearances, including 1 start. The command that Fenton has keeps batters off balance and lowers his opponent's chances of grabbing a free base. Fenton played his 2019 summer ball season in the CPL with the Wilmington Sharks where he recorded a 4.21 ERA with only 12 walks through 27 innings pitched. He continued this success into Davidson's 2020 Spring season where he dominated the mound. Fenton was in the starting rotation for the Wildcats and was lights out, showing a stellar opponent batting average of .200 in 4 starts going 3-0 with 1 no decision. In the shortened season Alex continued his pounding of the strike zone striking out 33 compared to 5 walks in 25.2 innings and allowing 19 hits with just 4 of them being extra bases. The Tobs are excited to see Alex pick up where he left off this spring for the Wildcats in Wilson this summer.

Next up is the freshman wildcat standout from Greenville, NC, Jacob Peaden. Peaden is a local NC native where he attended North Pitt High School and was a previous member of the American Legion Post 39. Jacob is among two other Post 39 alumni playing in Wilson this summer, alongside Tobs returners Colman Sawyer (UNC Greensboro) and Reese Farmer (East Tennessee State University). Peaden has shown that he can continue the legion programs reputation on producing top notch talent under Head Coach Ryan Meadows. During his shortened freshman campaign Peaden proved his worth by appearing in 6 games, while pitching 7.2 innings. During this time, he collected 2 saves, 9 strikeouts, and had an impressive opponent batting average of .154. Tobs fans can expected to see Jacob contribute to the pitching staff in several ways this summer.

Our final Wildcat to our Tobs trio is 6'1 freshman right hander Bennet Flynn. Flynn must really have wanted to be part of the Davidson pitching staff as he traveled from his hometown of Mill Valley, California. In high school Bennet was the Marin County Athletic League pitcher of the year in 2019 where he posted a 0.54 ERA with an outrageous 110 strikeouts in 60 innings. This spring for Davidson, Flynn was in total control bullying the strike zone and efficient in every sense of the word. Flynn had an 0.90 ERA and minuscule .125 batting average against. He was a force to be reckoned with as he appeared in 7 games, had 10 innings pitched, struck out 13, walked only 3, and closed out the Davidson win 4 times. Fans can expect Flynn to be given the ball in high leveraged situations all summer long.

The Wilson Tobs home opener, Band Jam, and Fireworks Show for the 2020 season is Thursday, July 2nd @ 6:15 PM. The 2nd Fireworks Show of the season will be Thursday, August 6th @ 6:15 PM. Season tickets and ticket packages are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (252) 291-8627, or by visiting www.wilsontobs.com.
