Wilson Tobs News Release
Wilson, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs, summer collegiate wood bat team, have added three left-handed pitchers to their arsenal of arms for the summer season. Sophomore Travis Harvey from Southwestern University and Matt Devlin out of Franklin and Marshall College join Wilson for their first season, while former 2018 Tob and Coastal Plain League All-Star Tyler Grauer returns.
Harvey is a 6'1 lefty from Cedar Park, T.X. He has been a reliable reliever as well as a starter for the Pirates. As a freshman, the pitcher made 11 appearances including two starts. The left-hander continued his freshman success with the Sunflower Colligate League in Kansas where he pitched for the Haysville Aviators. That summer Harvey led the team in innings pitched throwing 51 frames with a 2.80 earned run average, while allowing only 15 walks to 34 strikeouts. This spring at Southwestern Harvey built off his summer success and was in the starting rotation where he made three starts in the shortened season. In 15 innings, he struck out 21 and walked only six. The Tobs are excited to have Harvey help the pitching staff this summer and watch him continue to develop.
Matt Delvin comes to Wilson from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, P.A. The left-handed pitcher hails from Chattam, N.J. and has played a major role in the Diplomats' success over the last three years. While at Franklin and Marshall, Delvin has appeared in 20 games including 16 starts. As a sophomore he made nine starts totaling 55 innings, striking out 45 to 21 walks. That summer he threw for the Jersey Pilots in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. For the Pilots, Delvin worked 36.1 innings striking out 45 to just 13 walks, earning a 2.73 ERA. For the Diplomats this spring hewas in the driver's seat making three starts averaging 11 strikeouts per 9 innings. Adding a left-hander with his repertoire and strike throwing abilities is huge for the Tobs' pitching staff.
Former Wilson Tob and CPL All-Star Tyler Grauer is back in Wilson. The 6'5, 220 pound lefty pitched for Wilson during the 2018 summer. Coming to us from Indiana State University, the Shawnee, Kansas native brings a wealth of experience and success. At Indiana Stare the last four seasons, the Sycamores' closer has averaged 15 appearances a year totaling 88 innings, which include 17 saves and six wins. Grauer's dominance and command of the strike zone is what makes him so effective and efficient. In those 88 innings Tyler struck out 108 batters to a minuscule 21 walks and a career batting average against of .280.
Aside from his bullpen presence during school ball, he has been a force to be reckoned with as a starter during his summers. Grauer's freshman summer he played for the Terre Haute Rex of the Prospect League where he made 11 starts throwing 60 innings. In those appearances, Grauer made light work oh hitters, striking out 80 to just 17 walks and allowing only 50 hits. The next summer, the big lefty made his way to Wilson and was named a CPL All-Star and a member of the North Division championship Tobs. During the 2018 summer, Grauer was basically untouchable in his six starts. Walking only 10 batters in 30 innings while striking out 42, Tyler held hitters to a .186 batting average against while tallying a 1.48 ERA, The Tobs welcome back the power lefty to Fleming stadium with open arms this summer.
The Wilson Tobs are gearing up for the 2020 season, with a league opener set for July 2. We would like to dedicate each successful season to the Wilson Community, Coastal Plain League Organization, Host Families, Corporate Partners and the dedicated fans throughout the city of Wilson.
