Wilson Tobs News Release
(Wilson, N.C.) - The Wilson Tobs began the second half of the season with a 4-1 win over the Holly Springs Salamanders on Tuesday night. It was the seventh time this season the Tobs have held their opponents to one run or less, remaining undefeated in that scenario.
Wilson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. De'Andre Pitts smacked a 390-foot home run to left field to lead off the first. It was the first time in the 2019 season that a batter lead off the first for the Tobs with a homer.
Nate Imig came away with a solid outing and his second quality start of the season: six innings, five hits, one earned run on one walk, tying a season high with six strikeouts. The Salamanders only run of the game came in the top of the fifth. Ian Bailey doubled and was promptly driven in by Charlie Benson.
Tied at on in the bottom of the fifth, Wilson answered back with three straight hits to open the inning. Jared Carr came around courtesy of DeShawn Lookout. Lookout then scored later on a Christian Avant single.
Wilson held a 3-1 lead and added insurance in the bottom of the eighth with a De'Andre Pitts sacrifice fly. CJ Gonzales induced a double play in the ninth for his second save of the season in as many opportunities. Imig (3-1) earned his third victory. Reliever Mark Tindall (1-1) tossed seven innings but was handed the loss after allowing just three runs. Wilson begins the second half of the season 1-0 with their fifteenth win of the season.
Wilson is on the road Wednesday to matchup with Florence, but return home to face the Wilmington Sharks on Thursday, July 4. The Tobs will be hosting a Fourth of July Cornhole Tournament. Signup with your team and compete for great cash and Tobs prizes. Also enjoy drink specials, music and games all afternoon. Details and tickets are online at WilsonTobs.com.
