Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C. - Despite having to wait 13 days between starts, Tyler Grauer tossed five innings of scoreless baseball against the Edenton Steamers on Thursday night at Historic Fleming Stadium. The Tobs plated five runs in the fourth inning en route to a 12-2 victory against the Steamers.

The Tobs welcomed the City of Wilson Little League on Thursday night while also hosting Throwback Thirsty Thursday and Farm to Field Famer's Market courtesy of Deans Farm Market.

Grauer dazzled on Thursday night as he worked around six hits by the Steamers through five innings of work. The Wilson offense would give Grauer some early run support as Brenton Doyle scored in the bottom of the first inning to make it 1-0. Doyle increased the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second as he drove a ball into deep center field to allow Ben Faso to score from third.

Edenton attempted to start a rally against Grauer and the Tobs in the top of the third inning as the Steamers delivered back-to-back two-out hits. Grauer would get out of the inning following a groundout to second. The Steamers threatened again in the fourth as a pair of hits and a walk loaded the bases. The Tobs got out of the inning with a 2-0 lead still in-hand thanks to consecutive fly balls.

Wilson cashed in on two Edenton errors in the bottom of the fourth as the Tobs opened a 7-0 lead. Jacob Nester got things going with an infield run-scoring single to plate Faso. Drew Brooks brought home a pair of runners with his two-run single through the right side to make it 5-0 Wilson. The Tobs would add two more runs in the inning before Rigsby Mosley hit a fly-ball to right field to end the frame.

Grauer added two more strikeouts to his line in the top of the fifth inning before handing things over to the bullpen in the sixth. Edenton broke through for a pair of runs against the Wilson bullpen in the top of the seventh inning as Arthur Sells doubled to right field to trim the deficit to 7-2. The Tobs quickly added a pair of runs themselves in the bottom of the frame as Mosley tallied an RBI groundout followed by a run-scoring double from Caleb Dean that made it 9-2.

Wilson would add three more runs in the eighth and cap their season-high run production at 12 runs. The Tobs scored twice thanks to wild pitches by the Edenton bullpen along with a sacrifice fly from Mosley.

Grauer (2-0) tallied seven strikeouts compared to two walks through five innings of work. Grauer has tallied 17 strikeouts and five walks in two starts against the Steamers this season. Wilson Reliever's Danny Cody, Cody Smith, and Ryan Troutman all tossed scoreless innings on the night.

Brooks finished the night 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, including a 16 pitch at-bat in the bottom of the first inning. Faso paced the Tobs with a pair of hits in the contest and scored twice, while Nester went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Doyle scored three runs batting in the lead-off spot for Wilson, while Mosley added three RBIs in his first game with the Tobs.

The Tobs are on the road Friday night at Peninsula for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch and are back home on Saturday for a pair of seven-inning games against the Martinsville Mustangs. It will be Star Wars "Be A Hero" Night along with Slugger's Birthday and Mascot Mania at Historic Fleming Stadium.
