Tobs Add Talented Trio

May 18, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C. - Three new position players are coming to Historic Fleming Stadium this summer to play for the Wilson Tobs. Jacob Nester (Catawba College), Antwaun Tucker (Longwood University), and Danny Blair (South Carolina) are speedy players who will look to get on base and provide defensive stability in the middle of the diamond.

Nester is a sophomore from Kernersville, NC who looks to be a table-setter in the Tobs lineup. The right-handed hitting infielder started every game this season for Catawba, posting a .323 batting average to go along with a .438 on-base percentage. Nester walked more times than he struck out and tied for the team lead in stolen bases. Prior to his time at Catawba, he attended Chowan University and graduated from East Forsythe High School.

Tucker is a sophomore from Chase City, VA who will bring a lot of speed to the Tobs lineup in 2018. Over his two seasons with Longwood, Tucker has hit 11 triples, 7 of which came during his freshman season. During his sophomore season, the right-handed hitter swiped 17 bases in 21 tries. Tucker's primary position is at shortstop, where his quick speed should provide good defensive coverage in the Tob's infield.

Blair is a junior outfielder from Bel Air, MD. Prior to attending South Carolina University, he was rated as the second-best outfield prospect in Maryland as well as the No. 240 prospect overall for the 2015 MLB Draft by Perfect Game. He attended the IMG Academy in Florida, where the likes of Andrew Benintendi and the late Jose Fernandez played baseball. As a Gamecock, Blair has started 39 games, playing solid outfield defense and getting on base consistently.

The Wilson Tobs enter their 22nd season as a founding member of the Coastal Plain League. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate, a Pettit Cup Championship team, and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community. We would like to dedicate each successful season to the Wilson Community, Coastal Plain League Organization, Host Families, Corporate Partners, and the Dedicated Fans throughout the city of Wilson. The Wilson Tobs have played host to over 100 alumni taken in the draft and have produced a dozen players who have gone on to play in the MLB, including Cy Young & MVP winner Justin Verlander.
