Titans Goalie Matt Vinc Named NLL Defensive Player of the Week
April 1, 2009 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Orlando Titans News Release
New York - April 1, 2009 - New York Titans today announced that goaltender Matt Vinc was named the "Defensive Player of the Week" by the National Lacrosse League (NLL) for his outstanding performance in last Saturday's 11-9 victory over the first place East Division leading Buffalo Bandits.
Vinc's play between the pipes was truly amazing stopping 50 out of 59 shots on goal and silencing the usual hot Bandits offense. The win against Buffalo moves the Titans into a tie for second place in the East Division of the NLL with the (7-5) expansion franchise Boston Blazers.
"Matt was outstanding in net and was able to provide us with some big saves at key times throughout the game and especially during the Bandits power plays," said Titans' head coach Ed Comeau.
"It is always a huge honor to be named player of the week," said Matt Vinc. "Anytime you can get a huge win over a team like Buffalo after being off for three weeks it is a huge confidence boost. We need to carry the momentum into the weekend against Philly, they are a great offensive team."
The Titans are back at home in the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on Saturday, April 4th to play their second game of the regular season against the Philadelphia Wings at 7:35 PM. The following day, April 5th, the Titans will travel down the NJ Turnpike to take on the Wings in their third and final game of the regular season at 2:30 p.m.
