Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, April 1, 2009 - Portland LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill has been named the National Lacrosse League's Transition Player of the Week, the league announced today. Merrill scored three goals, added seven assists and collected 24 loose balls as Portland went 1-1 during the 13th week of the season.

"It was just another weekend at the office for Brodie," said Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan. "He consistently provides these types of performances for our team."

On Saturday, Merrill (3 goals, 6 assists) scored a career-high nine points and collected 12 loose balls as the Jax rolled the San Jose Stealth, 14-12, at the HP Pavilion.

A day later, Merrill tallied an assist and collected 12 loose balls as Portland fell to San Jose, 13-8, at the Rose Garden Arena.

"Brodie's skills allow him to do so many different things for the LumberJax," added Keenan. "He can pretty much do anything he is asked to do and then some."

Merrill has scored eight goals, added 22 assists and collected 161 loose balls this season. The four-time All-Star has collected 11+ loose balls in every game this season for the second place Jax (6-5).

This is the fourth time in Merrill's career that he's been named the Transition Player of the Week. The Orangeville, Ontario native previously earned the award during the second week of the season.
