Titans Explode to Salvage Finale of Weekend Set
July 3, 2022 - Frontier League (FL)
New York Boulders News Release
Rockland County, NY - Ottawa batted around in the sixth through eighth innings as the Titans salvaged the final game of their four-game weekend set with New York, handing the host Boulders a 13-6 defeat on Sunday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.
The Titans sent 10 men to the plate in a five-run sixth, then sent nine men to bat in four-run seventh and eighth innings.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for New York.
Jacob Sanford and Taylor Wright each had three RBI for the Titans.
After watching a four-run sixth inning lead get cut to single run, Ottawa exploded for four runs in the seventh to seize control with a 9-4 lead.
Brainy Rojas walked off New York starter Dan Wirchansky to open the inning before Jacob Talamante singled. Dylan Smith came on to relieve Wirchansky and surrendered an RBI single to A.J. Wright.
Jacob Sanford followed with a long three-run home run to right field - his 14th of the year - to increase the Titans' lead to 9-4.
Ottawa tacked on four runs in the eighth on two-run singles by Taylor Wright and Jason Dicochea to make it 13-5.
The Boulders took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on successive double by Chris Kwitzer and Gabriel Garcia off Ottawa starter Zach Westcott.
After being dominated by Wirchansky for five innings, the Titans broke loose for five unearned runs in the top of the sixth. Matt Feinstein and Taylor Wright had RBI singles, while Rodrigo Orozco had a two-run single in the frame that featured two errors by New York and another play that could have been ruled an error, but was scored a hit.
The Boulders, however, answered in their half of the sixth when a walk to Giovanni Garbella, a misplay on a grounder by Gian Martellini and a single by Kwitzer loaded the baes. Westcott, though, struck out Garcia and got Max Smith to pop out. However, Alphonso Reda tripled to right-center, clearing the bases and bringing New York within 5-4.
Garbella added a solo home run, his fifth of the year, in the seventh and a sacrifice fly in the ninth for the Boulders.
Westcott got the win for Ottawa as he improved to 6-1 on the season; while Wirchansky fell to 3-3 on the year with the loss.
