Titans Come up Short in Season Opener

Dan Palazzo went 4-4 at the plate as the Pittsfield Suns (1-0) took home a 9-6 victory over the Torrington Titans (0-1) at Fuessenich Park on Thursday.

Palazzo singled in the second, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.

The Torrington Titans had no answer for River Carbone, who kept runners off the basepaths in his late-game appearance. Carbone gave up just one hit, allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out three during his three innings of work.

The Torrington Titans were led by 3B Zach Wood (Bryant) and C Nick Garland (CCSU) at the plate. Wood went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the seventh inning. Garland drove in the first run of the game with a two-out single in the first to plate Joe Paparelli (Bryant).

Titans starter Brett Susi (CCSU) went 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits. He walked three batters and struck out six in his first start of the season. He would get the no decision.

Alex Fishberg (Iona) threw two strong innings against Suns' lineup. Fishberg held the Pittsfield Suns hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

Connor Johnson recorded the win for the Pittsfield Suns. He allowed three runs over one inning. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered two hits. Teammates helped him to the win by scoring four runs in their half of the inning.

John Russell (UConn- Avery Point) was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, struck out two and allowed four runs.

The Titans are back in action on Friday night against the same Pittsfield Suns, this time on the road for a 7:00 p.m. start.
