West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
The West Michigan Whitecaps made a 6 ½ hour road trip on Wednesday night and then paid for it the next evening. The Whitecaps batters looked extremely tired as they were shutout by the Beloit Snappers, 1-0, in Wisconsin on Thursday night. The loss was the fourth straight for the 'Caps on their current eight-game road trip as the team fell to 14-13 on the season.
Two Beloit pitchers blanked the 'Caps hitters on just two singles for the evening. One of those hits was a single by Wilton Reynolds that extended his personal hitting streak to ten games, longest of the season by a West Michigan hitter.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Snappers nicked 'Caps starter Troy Pickford for the only run of the game. Prince Fielder, son of former Detroit Tiger Cecil Fielder, had the RBI single for Beloit.
'Caps starter Troy Pickford pitched extremely well, allowing just three singles, but was saddled with the hard-luck loss.
The Whitecaps and Snappers will met again on Friday night at 7:30 Michigan time in game two of the series. Humberto Sanchez (2-2) will start for West Michigan.
