Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
CLEARWATER, FL - The pitching duo of Drew Naylor and Matt German turned in one of their better performances of the season helping the Clearwater Threshers to a 4-1 series-opening win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday night at Bright House Field. Naylor entered Saturday just 2-7 on the season before tossing seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits in the victory. German would toss the final two frames allowing a couple of walks before fanning two to earn the save.
Clearwater's offense got them on the board first as a quick lead-off single to left by John Urick started the second. Mike Eylward promptly lifted off with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left, giving the Threshers a 2-0 lead. On the very first pitch in the top of the third, Eli Tintor would spank a fastball from Naylor over the wall in left for his sixth blast of the year, cutting the Miracle deficit down to one.
A half-inning later, the Threshers would tack on their final pair of runs en route to the three-run win. Brian Finegan led off with a single to right and moved to third on Quinton Berry's hit-and-run base hit to right. Jesus Villegas followed with a sacrifice-fly to center scoring Finegan, before Urick drove in Berry with his RBI-single also to right.
The middle game of the three-game set takes place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The Miracle will appoint RHP Matt Fox (7-6, 3.55) to start at Bright House Field against the Threshers RHP Carlos Monasterios (4-8, 5.84). Fans can catch the action live on WMYR AM-1410 and WCNZ AM-1660 beginning with the pre-game show at 3:45 p.m.
