Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
aredo, TX - Ben Tinius hit a walk-off home run with one out in the seventh to send the Laredo Broncos (26-24) to a 2-1 victory over the Harlingen WhiteWings (16-33) in game one of a doubleheader tonight at Veterans Field.
The home run ended a classic pitchers' duel.
Todd Lutz (2-3) retired the first ten batters he faced and allowed just one hit through the first four and two-thirds innings. With two outs in the fifth, though, Ericnardo Padilla singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI-single by Anthony Bennett to make it 1-0.
Lutz scattered four hits while striking out five in the complete game.
Santo Hernandez (6-3) was equal to the task. He faced the minimum through the first four innings, allowing just a bunt-single over that span. In the sixth, though, Joel Gonzalez hit his first-career home run to tie the game 1-1.
Hernandez also scattered four hits while walking one and striking out ten in the complete game.
The WhiteWings and Broncos will close out the three-game series game two of this doubleheader of seven-inning games in about 20 minutes. Right-hander Angel Cordero (1-4) will face right-hander Dan Sausville (2-1).
