TinCaps, Fort4Fitness Challenge Fans to "Race the Game"
August 20, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - It's estimated that baseball players run an average of .046 miles in a game. Then again, a baseball season isn't a sprint. It's a marathon. But on Tuesday, August 26 - in a Minor League Baseball first - the Fort Wayne TinCaps are challenging their fans to run nearly an entire marathon during the course of a single game.
The TinCaps, in partnership with Fort4Fitness, want to see if fans can complete 70 laps around Parkview Field's concourse while Fort Wayne hosts the Bowling Green Hot Rods at 7:05 p.m.
Why 70 laps? That's the equivalent of 23.3 miles - the distance of the Fort4Fitness Triple Crown of a Half Marathon, 10K, and 4-Mile Run. The seventh annual Fort4Fitness Fall Festival laces up at Parkview Field a month later on September 26.
Assuming the game doesn't become a proverbial marathon, it would likely take a near Olympic-caliber performance for an individual to finish 70 laps before the last out is recorded. Therefore, the TinCaps are calling on as many fans as possible to participate in this jogging/walking relay.
Any fan who has signed up for the 2014 Fort4Fitness Fall Festival and brings a copy of their race registration will receive a $1.00 discount on a Reserved or All-Star Seat for the game. This deal also applies to anyone who has volunteered to work the 2014 Fall Festival.
(Note: The discount cannot be combined with any other offer.)
During the game on the 26th, Fort4Fitness also will reveal its 2014 race shirt.
Fans who are interested in "racing the game," should contact TinCaps Senior Ticket Account Manager Brent Harring for more information by email (harring@tincaps.com) or by phone (260-407-2816). Tickets are available to purchase online, at the Parkview Field Ticket Office, or by phone at 260-482-6400.
