
Tincaps Complete Sweep of Kernels, 5-2

July 10, 2009 - The Fort Wayne Tincaps completed a three game sweep of the Cedar Rapids Kernels winning on Friday night in front of 4,072 fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. It's the first time the Kernels have been swept in a series since mid-May.
Kernels starter Ryan Chaffee (6-3) allowed four runs over 2.1 innings and issued six walks. Matt Shoemaker did yeoman's work out of the bullpen, allowing a run on four hits and striking out two over five innings. Nick Pugliese and Andrew Taylor combined to allow a hit over the final 1.2 innings.
Alexi Amarista was 1-4 with a triple and run scored and Gabe Jacobo had an RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Kernels were held to just five hits as Matt Crawford, Tyson Auer, Dwayne Bailey and Darwin Perez each added a single.
Fort Wayne starter Mike Watt (4-2) held the Kernels to two runs (one earned) on five hits over 5 innings. Zach Herr retired the Kernels in the ninth for his second save. Blake Tekotte was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
The playoff-bound Kernels now welcome the Dayton Dragons, the Midwest League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds to Perfect Game Field for a three game series starting Saturday, July 11 at 6:35 pm. It's Vinton community night and the Kernels will have a spectacular FIREWORKS show following the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
