Timbers Host Cascadia Rival Seattle Sounders FC at Providence Park Today

The Portland Timbers are set to face off against Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders FC today, May 12 at Providence Park. The match is set to kick off at 1:45 p.m. (Pacific) featuring a national broadcast on FOX with a live stream on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish with local radio broadcasts on 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

Today's match will be the first of three regular-season meetings between the two Pacific Northwest clubs in the 2024 campaign. The two Cascadia teams enter the match with identical records this season (2-5-4, 10pts) ahead of their 120th meeting all-time today, dating back to the NASL era. In the MLS era, the Timbers hold a winning record of 17-15-9 (including playoffs) against the Sounders and are 11-7-3 when hosting them at Providence Park. Portland has gone unbeaten against the Seattle in the past two seasons and is unbeaten in the last six regular-season matchups (4-0-2), dating back to 2021. It marks the longest unbeaten streak in all competitions by either team in the MLS era of the rivalry. In that six-game span, the Timbers have outscored Seattle 13-4. Notably, Captain Diego Chara has played the most games and minutes of any player in the MLS series between Portland and Seattle, playing in and starting 33 matches and logging 2,969 minutes against the Sounders. He leads all three categories for any player in league history against Seattle. In the Timbers' match against LAFC on April 27, Chara made his 377th regular-season appearance, setting a new MLS record for most appearances with one team, surpassing Chris Wondolowski (376). Chara will be commemorated before kickoff at today's match.
