
Timbers duo garners league-wide honor

Portland, OR- Midfielder Andrew Gregor and forward Byron Alvarez were named to the A-League Team of the Week in recognition of their offensive output last week, it was announced Tuesday.
Gregor, 28, was included on the squad for the first time this season after scoring five points on two goals and one assist in a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Thunder Thursday at PGE Park.
Alvarez, 25, who was named A-League Player of the Week for Week Nine, earned his second nod to the Team of the Week this season by tallying three goals in wins over Minnesota and Edmonton. He scored once against Minnesota and leveled two strikes at Edmonton on Saturday afternoon.
Alvarez is tied for second in the league with 13 goals on the season.
The first-place Timbers have been included on the Team of the Week 15 times since the beginning of the season.
Portland will look to clinch the playoffs with a win or a tie this Thursday against Calgary at PGE Park. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
