(TORONTO, ON) â Coming off one of their best performances of the season in a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, soccer fans across North America will get the opportunity to catch the Toronto Lynx live on Fox Sports World and Fox Sports World Canada as they take on the Syracuse Salty Dogs this Friday, August 13th at 8:00pm.
Survivor Heart Throb Special Guest!
Friday's match will feature star and heart throb of Survivor All-Stars and winner of Survivor Africa, Ethan Zohn, who will be providing the sideline reporting. He will kick things off by performing the celebrity kick and will also be on hand to interact with fans. Zohn, who is a former soccer player with the United Soccer Leagues, will be arriving on in Toronto on Thursday August 12th for a whirlwind media tour allowing soccer fans and Survivor fans to get a closer glimpse. On game day, as part of the Mascot Theme night zany mascots representing various organizations and businesses from across the GTA will be staging a hilarious mini soccer scrimmage at half time which attracts many young families and fans each season.
On the field, the Lynx will be looking to build on their recent victory against Vancouver, as they take on a very tough Syracuse team in the front end of a home-and-home series. The teams will hook up for the third and final time of the season on Saturday, August 14th in Syracuse. After picking up an assist in the Vancouver match, striker Ali Gerba continues his quest to break the Lynx single season scoring mark of 13 set by Francisco Dos Santos in 1999. Gerba's 12 goals and 27 points are tied for forth in the A-League. He will be in tough against a Salty Dogs defense that has conceded the 4th fewest goals in the League. The Salty Dogs are playing their best soccer of the season presently and are undefeated in their previous 9 matches, creeping into a tie with the Atlanta Silverbacks for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The match should be very physical and intense as the fourth playoff spot is at stake.
MESSAM RELEASED FROM LYNX ROSTER
Jamaican international defender, Gregory Messam, has been released from the Toronto Lynx roster. The recent acquisitions of Edmilson De Carvalho, Vinicius Brito and Marcio Domingos from Brazil pushed the Lynx roster over the A-League limit of 7 foreign players. With Tyler Hughes and Lewis Blois occupying his left back position, Messam was released to make space on the roster for the incoming Brazilians to provide greater depth on the team bench and also add some punch to the midfield.
LYNX EVENT TEAM AT CNE
The Toronto Lynx event team will once again be a part of Kid's World at the Canadian National Exhibition this season for the "Kid's Loonie Mondays" taking place on August 23rd and August 30th. The Lynx will be providing interactive soccer skills contests and prizes along with raffles. Lynx players will also be in attendance for a "greet and meet". Soccer fans planning on attending the CNE this season as we wind up another summer will want to test their soccer skills and interactive with their local heroes.
