Tigers Trainer Takes Home League Honor

NORWICH-Connecticut Tigers Athletic Trainer T.J. Obergefell has been selected as the New York-Penn League Athletic Trainer of the Year as chosen by his peers in a vote conducted by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society. Obergefell now becomes one of the 18 finalists for the PBATS Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year, which will be awarded in December at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville.

"This award means an awful lot because it came from my peers," says Obergefell. "I'm very proud to be in the Tigers organization and very humbled by this honor."

This is Obergefell's fourth season with the Tigers, having served as the Athletic Trainer with Single A Oneonta in 2009 and the GCL Tigers in 2010. The Oneonta, NY native is a 2007 graduate of the State University of New York at Brockport and received his master's degree from Georgia State University in 2009.

This fall Orbergefell will serve as one of the two athletic trainers for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, play in the New York-Penn League and are currently in their final home stand; which concludes on Sunday, September 2. The Tigers will host the 2013 New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday, August 13 and ticket information will be announced soon. The Box Office is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
