De Los Santos Slugs Tigers to Win Before Record Crowd

NORWICH-The Connecticut Tigers (32-38) got two RBIs from DH Carlos De Los Santos (3-3), including an RBI single to snap a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning and earn a 2-1 win over the Lowell Spinners (34-37) before 4,223 fans, the largest ever crowd in the three-year history of the Connecticut Tigers at Dodd Stadium.

RHP Angel Nesbitt (3-3) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

The Spinners scored a run in the second inning. DH Mookie Betts (1-3) walked and moved to second base on a balk. RF Kevin Heller (1-3) hit a sacrifice bunt to move Betts to third base. He scored on a single by 1B Matt Gedman (0-2) for a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers scored the tying run in the sixth inning. SS Jared Reaves (2-3) hit a triple to center field and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by De Los Santos for a 1-1 tied score.

Connecticut took the lead for good in the eighth inning. RF Patrick Smith (1-3) singled and went to second base on a single by Reaves. De Los Santos slapped a single to left field to score Smith for a 2-1 advantage.

The Tiger and Spinners play game two of their series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive the "CT the Tiger" bobble head give away. There will also be a special premium wine tasting event sponsored by Connecticut Distributors at "The Yard" Bar and Grill. Fans that wish to participate in the wine tasting must purchase a ticket to "The Yard" Bar and Grill.

Lowell will send LHP Austin Maddox (0-0, 0.00) to the mound while the Tigers will start LHP Ryan Longstreth (0-1, 6.35). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
