Tigers Take Series Finale over Doubledays

The Auburn Doubledays, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost to the Connecticut Tigers, 5-0, in the final game of a three-game series between the teams. Paul Panaccione picked up two hits for the Doubledays in the loss.

Connecticut (30-23) scored in the top of the first inning for the third straight game. With one out, Will Savage walked. Cole Bauml then singled to put runners on first base and third base. Blaise Salter followed with a ground out into a fielder's choice, but Savage scored to put Connecticut up, 1-0.

The Tigers added to their lead in the third inning. With two outs, Savage worked a walk. Bauml once again singled to put runners on first and second. Salter followed with a base hit that scored Savage to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Connecticut extended its lead in the fifth inning. With one out, Hunter Swilling doubled. Daniel Woodrow then singled to score Swilling and push the Tigers' lead to three, 3-0. Savage followed with a sacrifice bunt that moved Woodrow to second base. Bauml then singled, scoring Woodrow to extend the Connecticut lead to 4-0.

The Tigers topped off their evening in the ninth inning. With one out, Swilling hit a solo home run to left field for Connecticut's fifth run of the game.

The Doubledays (22-31) couldn't put a rally together as Auburn had seven hits, but the Doubledays had no more than two hits in any inning. Paul Panaccione led Auburn with two hits.

Auburn returns to action on Friday night as the Doubledays begin a three-game series with the Batavia Muckdogs. Left-hander Yonathan Ramirez will pitch for the Doubledays. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Falcon Park.
