
Tigers Fall in High-Scoring Contest against Vermont

Norwich, CT - Ryan Kreidler went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI, but the Connecticut Tigers (9-12) fell by a final score of 14-12 to the Vermont Lake Monsters (9-13). Kreidler was a home run shy of the cycle for Connecticut.
The Tigers got the scoring started in the first inning. Jake Holton and Hector Martinez each singled home a run to begin the inning. They made it 3-0 when Cooper Johnson scored on a wild pitch. Holton finished the night 2-for-4 with four runs scored, two RBI and two walks.
Vermont answered in the top half of the second inning. Michael Woodworth singled home two runs to make it 3-2. Kevin Richards gave Vermont the lead with a two-RBI double to make it 4-3. Woodworth and Richards combined for seven RBIs for the Lake Monsters.
In the third, Connecticut took the lead back to make it 5-4. Gresuan Silvero grounded into a fielder's choice and Holton came in to score along with Kreidler, after a throwing error by Yerdel Vargas on the throw to first.
The lead did not last long as Vermont put up a two-spot in the top half of the fourth. Woodworth doubled home a run to tie the game, and Kevin Richards gave the lead to Vermont with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-5.
In the bottom of the inning, Kreidler got the scoring started with an RBI triple to tie the game. After Holton walked, Martinez delivered a three-run home run off of Carolos Sanchez (Win, 1-0) to make it 9-6. Martinez finished the night 2-for-5 with five RBI. Sanchez went went 2.2 innings with three hits, three runs, three strikeouts and two walks.
Vermont posted a seven-run inning in the top half of the sixth to take the lead for good. The frame started with a RBI single by Nick Osborne off of Bairon De La Rosa (Loss, 0-2). The inning was headlined by a three-run home run by Lawrence Butler to make it 13-9.
The Tigers scored two runs in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 13-11. Vermont tacked on an insurance run in the in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Richards to make it 14-11. In the ninth, the Tigers got the tying run to second, but
Jorge Martinez (Save, 1) closed the door for Vermont winning the contest 14-12.
The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow to begin a six-game road trip with a series against the Staten Island Yankees. Carson Lance will be on the mound tomorrow night for the Tigers.
