Tiger-Cats Sign Trio of American Players

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Thursday the football club has signed three American players, including wide receiver Isaiah Burse, defensive back Jomon Dotson and offensive lineman Justice Powers.

Burse, 28, appeared in 21 career National Football League games with the Denver Broncos (2014) and San Diego Chargers (2016), registering 44 punt returns for 307 yards and 10 kick returns for 195 yards. The 5-10, 188-pound native of Modesto, California also spent time on the practice rosters of the Pittsburgh Steelers (2015) and Los Angeles Chargers (2017).

Prior to turning pro, Burse played 52 games over four seasons at Fresno State (2010-13), registering 209 receptions for 2,503 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns, while adding 32 carries for 191 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also returned 126 kickoffs for 2,835 yards, and 29 punts for 344 yards and two punt return touchdowns as Bulldog, and was named to the Mountain West All-Academic team in his senior year.

Dotson, 24, signed as an undrafted free agent and spent time with the NFL's Chicago Bears in 2019. The 5-10, 180-pound native of Vallejo, California started 11 of 13 games at the University of Nevada in 2018, registering 75 tackles, two interceptions and six pass breakups. Prior to transferring to Nevada, Dotson spent three seasons at the University of Washington (2015-17), suiting up at both running back (2015-16) and defensive back (2017). Overall with the Huskies, he accumulated 75 carries for 302 yards and one rushing touchdown, five receptions for 86 yards and one receiving touchdown, 13 defensive tackles and one interception that he returned 68 yards for a touchdown.

Powers, 23, signed as an undrafted free agent and spent time with the NFL's Los Angeles Rams in 2019. He played in 27 games at right tackle for the University of Alabama at Birmingham over two seasons (2017-18). The 6-3, 295-pound native of Cedar Hill, Texas spent 2016 at Trinity Valley Community College en route to being named a 2016 JUCO Super Sophomore Selectee by Sporting News College Football Preview Magazine.
