
Tides knock off Old Dominion in Exhibition Game

April 1, 2008 - The Norfolk Tides plated four runs on four hits, knocking off the Old Dominion Monarchs 5-0 in the Bank of the Commonwealth Scholarship Game Tuesday night at Harbor Park.
The game was the 18th in the series between the two teams, with the Tides now holding a 14-3-1 advantage. All proceeds from the game benefited the Baseball Scholarship Fund for Old Dominion University.
Chris Roberson paced the offense with a two-run double, while Mike Costanzo, Tike Redman and Chris Heintz added base hits. Jim Johnson worked three hitless innings to lead the pitching staff, while Bob McCrory, Lance Cormier and Roberto Novoa each hurled a scoreless inning of relief.
Old Dominion's Chris Baker, who attended Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, powered the Monarchs offense with a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning.
The Tides open the 2008 International League season Thursday night at Harbor Park, as they take on the Buffalo Bisons at 7:15. The game will be broadcast live on WSKY-TV Channel 4, the first of 20 Tides broadcasts on the network this season.
