
Tides announce Opening Day roster

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Tides have announced their Opening Day roster. The club will be led by manager Gary Allenson, who is in his third season with the Tides. Dallas Williams will once again serve as hitting coach, while Mike Griffin will serve as the club's pitching coach.
The Tides initial roster includes catchers Steve Torrealba and Matt Wieters; infielders Mike Costanzo, Scott Moore, Donnie Murphy, Carlos Rojas, Oscar Salazar and Justin Turner; outfielders Jolbert Cabrera, Justin Christian, Lou Montanez and Nolan Reimold; and pitchers Brad Bergesen, Alberto Castillo, David Hernandez, Radhames Liz, Bob McCrory, Kam Mickolio, Jim Miller, Andy Mitchell, David Pauley, Chris Tillman, Chris Waters and Ross Wolf.
Pitcher Brad Hennessey (right elbow strain), catcher Robby Hammock (strained oblique) and infielder Blake Davis (stress fracture in left foot) will begin the season on the disabled list.
The Tides begin their 2009 regular season tonight with a road contest against the Durham Bulls at 7:05. Norfolk's home opener is Monday, April 20 against the Charlotte Knights, with first pitch slated for 7:15 p.m.
