Norfolk, VA - The Norfolk Tides beat the Richmond Braves 4-3 Tuesday at Harbor Park. The Tides rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to send the Braves down to their fourth consecutive loss.
The Braves erupted for three runs in the second inning. Jason Phillips scored on a wild pitch and Derrick Arnold doubled two runs in. The Tides chipped back with two runs in the third on a two-run single by Oscar Salazar. A key Braves error in the fourth allowed Mike Costanza to score the tying run. Costanza whacked a home run in the sixth to move the Tides in front. Richmond threatened in the ninth but stranded runners at second and third.
Chris Waters struck out seven in 6.1 innings and earned the win. Chuck James took the loss. Greg Aquino notched a save. Costanzo had two hits for the Tides. Josh Anderson had two hits for Richmond.
The Braves and Tides continue their series Wednesday at 7:15 at Harbor Park. Damian Moss is slated to pitch against Hayden Penn. The Braves return home July 4.
