Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed running back Jesse Lumsden to a one-year (plus an option) contract. Lumsden was the Ticats' first round (sixth overall) selection in the 2005 CFL Canadian College Draft.

"We are excited to add Jesse to our team. From personal experience I know what kind of football player he can be and I know what kind of person he is," said Ticats Head Coach Greg Marshall. "Jesse will fit in nicely with everyone in our locker room and be a good addition to our roster."

The 6-2, 226-pound native of Burlington, Ontario was awarded the 2004 Hec Crighton Trophy after one of the greatest seasons in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football history. The 23 year-old set the CIS single-season rushing record with 1,816 yards and also set a new Ontario University Athletics career rushing mark with 4,328 yards with the McMaster Marauders. Lumsden was released by the NFL's Seattle Seahawks on August 23rd after signing as an undrafted free agent with the club on April 24th.

Lumsden also established a new CIS single season touchdown record with 21 majors in 2004, surpassing his own record of 20 touchdowns scored in 2003. He also became the CIS career touchdown leader after making 47 trips to the end zone during his four seasons with McMaster.
