OTTAWA - Fans of the Ottawa Renegades dug deep and together made a significant contribution to the Hurricane Katrina relief fund at the team's last home game.
Supporters of the club attending the Sept. 8 contest against the B.C. Lions combined to raise $11,145 for the Canadian Red Cross. The Renegades offered their âMardi Gras' beads to fans in exchange for a donation of at least a toonie.
"We are grateful that our fans were so generous for what is a very important cause," said Renegades president Lonie Glieberman. "It is important to help those in need who have been affected by this disaster."
With the success of last Thursday's fundraiser, the Renegades and the Canadian Red Cross have teamed up to offer the Mardi Gras beads once again for this Friday's Ottawa home game. Prior to, and during, the Week 12 game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, vendors will be offering the necklaces for a minimum donation of $2.
