ThunderBolts' Exhibition to benefit local charities

Crestwood, IL - When the 2007 Frontier League Champion Windy City ThunderBolts play the Midwest Sliders at Standard Bank Stadium on Friday, May 16, 2008, the real winners will be Park Lawn School and Sertoma Centre, two local southwest suburban based charities that serve the developmentally disabled.
This Inaugural Charity Classic is an exhibition game scheduled to give the ThunderBolts an opportunity to give their field crew and fan services staff a "test run" prior to the ThunderBolts home opener on Tuesday, May 27th while at the same time providing fundraising opportunities for Park Lawn School and Sertoma Centre.
Park Lawn is a non-profit organization offering a variety of programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Established in 1955, Park Lawn's mission is to provide comprehensive services for people with developmental disabilities and their families. The goal is to promote independence, choice and access to mainstream living.
Established by the Alsip (now Action), Evergreen, and POW-R Sertoma Clubs in 1971, Sertoma Centre, Inc., with two locations in Alsip, Illinois, and nine residential homes throughout the south and southwest suburbs, is a nationally accredited, not-for-profit agency that provides services to more than 650 individuals with developmental, physical and emotional disabilities, and/or mental illness.
"Even though this is an exhibition game that will not go in the record books, it will have all the fun and excitement of a real home game," stated Steve Tahsler of the ThunderBolts. "Once we cover the expenses associated with bringing the Sliders here, all ticket proceeds will be shared equally by Sertoma Centre and Park Lawn School. It's a great way to kick off minor league baseball on the South Side and help two great organizations that do so much to benefit people with developmental disabilities throughout our community," he added.
The game will begin at 7:05 pm and all tickets are $5.00 each in advance or $6.00 at the gate. Standard Bank Stadium is located in 14011 S. Kenton Avenue, just east of Cicero Avenue, in Crestwood, IL.
In addition, the ThunderBolts announced their complete spring training schedule. The first workout will take place on Wednesday, May 7, with the ThunderBolts' hosting the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League in an exhibition game at noon on Friday, May 9. Windy City will then host the Rockford RiverHawks in a 2:00 pm double-header on Saturday, May 10. The Southern Illinois Miners will come up for an exhibition game at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 12, and the ThunderBolts will face the Traverse City Beach Bums at the U.S. Steelyard in Gary, Indiana, at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 13. Following the Charity Classic on May 16, the ThunderBolts will travel to Rockford for a 2:00 pm double-header on Saturday, May 17. All workouts and home exhibition games will take place at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood.
"After a long off-season, I'm eager to return to the field when we hold our first workout next Wednesday," commented ThunderBolts' field manager Brian Nelson. "As defending Frontier League champions, we know that teams will be looking to knock us off all season, and having a quality spring training is essential to maintaining our momentum from 2007."
The Windy City ThunderBolts are entering their tenth season as members of the Frontier League. The ThunderBolts play at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood and will look to defend their Frontier League Championship. Windy City opens the 2008 season on May 21, with the home opener on Tuesday, May 28 against the Evansville Otters.
