Twin City Thunderbirds News Release

The Carolina Thunderbirds took on the Danville Dashers last weekend. What started as a battle of unbeatens left both teams suffering their first losses of 2018-19.

The Thunderbirds struck first with a Friday night win 5-2 over Danville. Frankie McClendon earned first star honors during the win in what was his first start of the 2018-19 season. Petr Panacek, Everett Thompson, Artur Drindrozhik, Josh Pietrantonio and Jan Salak were the goal scorers in this one.

On Saturday though the Dashers got even with Carolina scoring twice in a three minute span in the third period to defeat Carolina 2-1 on Veterans Night. CJ Blaszka tallied Carolina's only goal and Henry Dill suffered the loss.

Despite the loss the Thunderbirds remain atop the FHL standings leading the Dashers by the same 1-point margin they began the weekend with.

The Thunderbirds now look to the road for the first time this season as they travel to western New York to play the Elmira Enforcers Friday and Saturday night. Both games set to start at 7:05 P.M. with TV coverage on TFMSports.com and the Thunderbirds call of the game on WTOB. The Thunderbirds and Enforcers have played twice already this season with Carolina winning both meetings in Winston-Salem back on November 2 and 3.

Andre Niec will be eligible to coach in this weekend's games after having his suspension reduced by the FHL to four games stemming from an October 27th incident. This marks the end of interim head coach Karolina Huvarova's run as bench boss. Her 3-0-0-1 record make her the winningest female head coach in professional men's hockey history.
