Bloomington, IL - After having Thanksgiving day off, the Bloomington Thunder grabbed their second win of the week against the United States National Team Development Program (USNT DP) with a final score of 3-2 . The Thunder fell to Team USA U-18 in an eight round shootout in Ann Arbor in their first meeting earlier in the mon th, but took a win from the U17 s.
Team USA grabbed the first goal of the night early in the first period from Defensemen Chad Krys. Bloomington made up for USA's one goal lead with a goal by Tarek Baker (University of Minnesota) assisted by Vince Pedrie (Quinnipiac University). Through the second period, the game remained tied until half way through, USA grabbed a goal from Trent Frederic (University of Wisconsin) on their power play, givi ng them the advantage.
The Thunder came back late in the second with two go als . Max Gottlieb grabbed a power play goal at 19:33 with an assist from Jeremy Davies (Northeastern University). Then 20 seconds later, Bloomington quickly turned the face off around and picked up another goal with seven seconds left in the period. Jack Jenkins picked up the game winning goal with an assist from Blake Gober, leading the Thunder 3-2 into the third period.
Team USA couldn't sneak the puck past the Thunder in the third and with 48 second on the clock, USA pull ed their goalie Jake Woll. In his first starting game since facing the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on November 9th, Thunder goalie Logan Halladay (University of Minnesota) took home the win making 24 saves on USA's 26 shots. Bloomington racked up a total of 40shots on the night and went 1-3 on the power play.
Next home game: Bloomington takes on the Chicago Steel for the second time of the week on Saturday, November 29 for their first annual 'Teddy Bear Toss' Night. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 pm at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Bring toys to donate in the concourse to Toys for Tots, or a stuffed animal to toss on the ice after the Thunder's first goal.
