
Thunder ties record in OT loss

PORT HURON, Mich. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder tied the club record for points in a season Tuesday despite a 4-3 overtime loss to Port Huron before 1,370 people at McMooran Arena in International Hockey League action.
Bloomington has 69 points with its 30-28-4-5 record to match the point total in the standings of the 2007-08 team. It also moved the PrairieThunder eight points ahead of idle Flint and Quad City for the fourth place for the final postseason playoff berth.
The PrairieThunder returns to action Wednesday with a 6 p.m. game at Flint.
Port Huron enjoyed a 3-1 lead heading into the third period, thanks to an unassisted goal by Mike Kinnie midway through the first period, another goal by Kinnie with 17:31 left in the second period and a power play goal by Brandon Naurato with 2:46 to go in the second period.
Bloomington got its only goal in the first two periods from Jon Booras with 5:24 left in the first period off assists by Craig Macdonald and Preston Briggs.
Macdonald cut the PrairieThunder deficit to 3-2 just 52 seconds into the third period on an unassisted effort. Robin Gomez' goal knotted the score with seven minutes remaining in regulation off assists by Zac Pearson and Briggs.
Port Huron won the game with 1:45 remaining in overtime on Matt Auffrey's goal off assists by Kris Vernarsky and Jamie Lovell.
The IceHawks owned a 33-32 edge in shots and were 1 for 6 on the power play. Bloomington was unsuccessful on four power plays. Andrew Martin took the loss in net for the PrairieThunder.
