Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks are proud to announce that Detroit Red Wings legend Mickey Redmond will visit McMorran Arena Tuesday, April 6 when the Icehawks take on the Bloomington PrairieThunder as part of the Red Wings Legend Night series. Redmond will drop the ceremonial first puck before being available to meet fans and sign autographs.
The autograph session will take place in the Icehawks Pro Shop during the first period and first intermission on a first come, first serve basis. Line up early if you want an autograph from this Hockey Legend and Stanley Cup winner! Autographs are free with the purchase of any Icehawks merchandise or $5 each for items you bring yourself. Proceeds benefit Kinney Charities.
Redmond spent six seasons with the Red Wings in the 1970s, and his 52 goals in the 1972-73 season stood as a team record for more than a decade. Redmond was just the third NHL player to score more than 50 goals in back-to-back seasons, and played on a line with legends like Alex Delvecchio and Marcel Dionne. Before his time in Detroit, Redmond won two Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens.
After his playing career was cut short by a back injury, Redmond moved into the broadcasting booth, where he gained a whole new generation of fans. Redmond appeared on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, ESPN's National Hockey Night and NHL on Fox before coming back to Detroit with Fox Sports Detroit. Mickey has been the main color commentary voice of the Red Wings for decades, and has become famous for his "Mickeyisms" such as "Bingo-Bango," and "Here comes Houdini."
"It is an honor to be able to bring one of the most famous Red Wings to an Icehawks game and give our fans an opportunity to meet a true legend," said Icehawks Vice President and Business Manager Dave Goetze. "Mickey is a favorite of hockey fans of multiple generations and has become the voice of Red Wings hockey in the broadcast booth."
Redmond will be the last Red Wings Legend to appear at an Icehawks game this season. Previously, fans have had the chance to meet Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, Joe Kocur and Karen Newman.
Fans can purchase 50/50 Raffle tickets for a chance to win an autographed Gordie Howe hockey jersey or autographed Carhartt tote bag with select Red Wings Alumni autographs. Tickets will be sold on April 6th and the winner will be announced during the third period of the game.
Since the Icehawks game against Bloomington falls on a Tuesday, the Deuces Wild package will be available. The package includes two tickets in the Attack Zone and two beers or soft drinks for just $22. The package must be purchased at the Icehawks box office during normal business hours. Also, April 6 marks the final Dollar Dogs night of the season. Hot dogs are just a buck throughout the game.
Single game tickets for all Icehawks home games are on sale now at the McMorran Arena Box Office, any Ticket Master location or by phone. For more information, visit www.porthuronicehawks.com or call 810-966-3800.
