Thunder Theme for 2011-12 Invites Fans to "Get In On The Action" With Unique Look

July 7, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder announced its 2011-12 hockey season, the seventh in the Central Valley, will be themed "Get In On The Action," inviting fans to experience the thrills and suspense that Thunder hockey has become synonymous for through a unique presentation style.

The new season's marketing campaign will take on the look of an "action" comic book. Throughout the year, it will spotlight the season's overall hockey and entertainment experience, presented to fans through game night promotions, special events, community activities and charitable efforts.

Nearly capturing its first division banner last season, the Thunder has averaged over 6,000 fans per home game at Stockton Arena for six consecutive seasons. From 2005-09, Stockton led the ECHL in attendance, becoming the first team to accomplish the feat for four straight seasons since the Florida Everblades (2000-05).

"Our fans enjoy Thunder hockey for a number of reasons and we feel that 'action' is a great word to describe all of those different reasons," said Thunder vice president of marketing Marlena Aranda. "From the in-game entertainment to the fights to the festive environment, Thunder hockey is action packed."

The official season artwork and theme was released in an effort to draw inspiration from the comic book genre, using accompanying graphics that will be prominently displayed through Thunder publications, advertising, merchandise and the team's official website, www.StocktonThunder.com.

The season's theme will feature players depicted as "action heroes," ready to accomplish amazing feats on the ice. In comparison, special events off the ice that have become a signature for premier hockey entertainment in the Central Valley will tie in with the theme including "Thunder Goes Pink," "Easy Being Green," the Kelly Cup Playoffs and more.

The artwork to accompany the theme was designed by Donnie Conner in the Thunder marketing department.

Thunder experienced a six percent increase in home attendance last season, ranking second in the league with 6,382 fans per game - the team's highest average since 2007-08. The Thunder also welcomed 12 crowds of 7,000 or more at Stockton Arena. Last season, $811,490 was also donated through the Thunder in cash and other items to charity, topping its pervious charitable record of over $650,000 set in 2009-10.

Details on 2011-12 FanFest, the traditional "open house" interactive event at Stockton Arena, will be announced soon.
