Thunder Strike Down Cutthroats

Wichita - The Denver Cutthroats and Wichita Thunder faced off for the final game in the 2013-14 season series on Tuesday, January 28 at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas. The Thunder defeated the Cutthroats 4-3 in overtime.

Robin Soudek ( T.J. Fox, Aaron MacKenzie) scored Denver's first goal of the night to give the Cutthroats a 1-0 lead over the Wichita Thunder during the opening 20 minutes of play.

The Cutthroats Troy Schwab (Garett Bembridge, Steve Kaunisto) fired the puck to the back of the Thunder's net less than a minute into the second period to lead 2-0. Wichita's Tomas Klempa (Matt Summers, Jon Booras) answered Denver's goal to cut the deficit to one. Mike Wilson (Klempa, RG Flath) tied the score at 2 with a shot past the Denver Cutthroats netminder Travis Bosch.

The Central Hockey League's leading scorer Garett Bembridge (Schwab, Daniel Barczuk) scored the Cutthroats third goal of the night to reclaim the lead 3-2. The Thunder's Ian Lowe (Andrew Martens, Booras) tied the score at 3 with less than a minute remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Teammate Andrew Martens (Jesse Dudas, Booras) scored the game-winning goal to close the night 4-3 Wichita Thunder. The Cutthroats finished the season series against the Thunder 3-0-1.

The Denver Cutthroats road series continues on Friday, January 31 against the Missouri Mavericks at Independence Events Center in Independence, Missouri and Saturday, February 1 against the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
