
Thunder Rumbles Through Gorillas Comeback

AMARILLO, TX - The Gorillas tried their best by erasing a two-goal deficit and scoring four in the third period but it wasn't enough as the Wichita Thunder defeated Amarillo 7-5 on Friday night in front of a crowd of 2,914 Jungle fans. Joe Guenther scored twice while Wichita's Tab Lardner accounted for three of seven Thunder goals. Amarillo goaltender Shawn Degagne halted 24 shots of the 31 faced and Wichita's Sebastian Laplante did well, stopping 35 of 40 Gorilla shots.
The Gorillas and Degagne did not get off to the start they would have wanted. Despite some very impressive saves, the Thunder were able to get one past the Amarillo tender. While on a three-on-one advantage, a pass from Daniel Tetrault to left-winger Lardner was able to beat Degagne top-shelf for the game's opening goal at 10:22 of the first period. The goal was Lardner's 14th of the year.
Wichita was again able to get on the board less than seven minutes later. While on a power play, a pass from Tetrault found player-coach Jason Duda for a shot. Although Duda's shot was stopped, the ensuing deflection was put through by right-winger Kris Wiebe, his 11th. The goal came at 17:01 and extended Wichita's lead 2-0.
