Thunder Re-Sign Leiter

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today re-signed forward Jeff Leiter and added rookie forward Jeff McGill.

The 30-year-old Leiter returns to the Thunder for a fifth straight season, after leading the Thunder last season with 21 majors and 289 penalty minutes. Over his first four seasons with the Thunder, Leiter has compiled 72 points in 174 games.

"Jeff is another physical player, who will play a big role on this year's team", said Thunder head coach Derek Laxdal. "He is a pillar in the community and a tremendous leader both on and off the ice. I'm looking forward to Jeff returning to his style of two seasons ago, when he recorded a career-high 11 goals, 27 points and 271 penalty minutes."

Leiter, who has a Master's Degree in Bio-Mechanics and is currently pursuing his Doctorate, is Wichita's all-time leader with 58 major penalties. He also ranks third in Thunder history with 796 penalty minutes, just 130 behind Thunder assistant coach Sean O'Reilly.

McGill joins the Thunder after spending his college career at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. Over his four seasons there he compiled 85 points in 136 games. This past season he finished third on the team with 13 goals and 25 points in 36 games.

"Jeff is a good two-way forward who comes to us with impressive offensive credentials", said Laxdal. "I expect him to come to camp ready to challenge for a spot on this team."

The Thunder drop the puck on their 12th CHL season with a pair of home games at the Kansas Coliseum. Wichita will open against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday, October 17th, then host the Tulsa Oilers on Saturday, October 18th. Both games will face-off at 7:30 p.m.
