
Thunder playoff schedule released

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Class AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, has released its schedule for the 2006 Eastern League Playoffs. Trenton (77-60) clinched its first Northern Division Regular Season championship since 1999 with a doubleheader sweep over the Erie SeaWolves on Wednesday night.
Trenton's opponent in the first round of the Eastern League Playoffs is still yet to be determined. The Thunder will face either the Portland Sea Dogs or the Binghamton Mets. Portland (70-65) has a two-game lead over Binghamton (68-67) for second place and the final playoff spot in the Northern Division. Portland's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is four with five games remaining in the regular season, including a head-to-head game at Binghamton tonight. Portland hosts New Hampshire in its final four games. After tonight's game against Portland, Binghamton plays its final four games at Connecticut.

Trenton concludes a four-game series at Erie tonight at 7:05 p.m. Matt Childers (2-3 4.37) will start for the Thunder against Erie's Jon Connolly (3-4 6.14). The Thunder return home for a four-game series against the Reading Phillies Friday night at Waterfront Park. It is the final four games of the regular season.
