Thunder Need Extras to Win

Abilene, Texas - the McAllen Thunder needed extra innings to defeat the Abilene Prairie Dogs on Sunday night at Walt Driggers Field by a score of 8-7 in ten innings.

The Thunder (20-36) was lead by Nelson Teilon who drove in four runs and a home run to pace the offense on two-for-five batting appearances.

The McAllen Thunder got the scoring started with Teilon's homerun that drove in three runs that made it 3-0 in the first inning.

Then the Prairie Dogs started their rally as Gerardo Valentin hit a two-run homerun to cut the deficit to make it a 3-2.

Both teams would trade leads heading into the ninth inning as McAllen plated two runs but Abilene would respond via a Kyle Nichols two-run double to send the game into extra innings.

With the score tied at seven, Teilon came to the plate and singled, scoring Craig Hertler in the tent h inning.

Chad Robinson improved to (4-0) on the year by picking up the win for the McAllen Thunder. He allowed two runs over two innings. Robinson struck out one, walked one and gave up three hits.

Jeremy Tietze (2-3) couldn't get it done on the bump for the Abilene Prairie Dogs, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.

The Thunder will start a four game road series, against the Rio Grande Valley White Wings on Monday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
