Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Wichita (44-18-3) closed out its regular season home schedule Saturday night, losing 3-1 to the Evansville IceMen (40-21-4) at INTRUST Bank Arena. Evansville won both games in Wichita and tied the season-series at three games a piece.
Matt Robinson (34) scored the lone-goal in the first period. Chris Chappell got to a loose puck on a dump-in and found Robinson on the near post to make it 1-0 at 9:16.
In the second period, the IceMen scored twice to take its first lead of the game. Phillipe Plante tied it on a power play as he tipped home a Todd Robinson shot from the blue line. The IceMen took the lead at 11:04 when Maxime Boisclair pounced on a loose puck and put it past Thunder starter Adam Russo to make it 2-1.
Wichita made late charge in the third and had a couple of power play chances, but were unable to solve IceMen goalie Bryan Gillis down the stretch. He made the save of the game late in the period when Daniel Tetrault put a slap shot towards the goal and as the puck seemed to be making its way over the line, Gillis reached back and swiped it away and denied Wichita a chance to tie it up. Evansville added an empty-net goal and won by the final of 3-1.
Evansville won both meetings in Wichita, outscoring the Thunder 8-3. Wichita went 0-for-5 while the IceMen went 1-for-5 on the power play.
